What do they have in common?
Chet Baker, Ray Charles
Miles Davis, Eric Clapton
Mike Bloomfield, John Coltrane
Bill Evans, Joe Pass
Jimmy Page, Charlie Parker
Lou Reed, David Bowie
Iggy Pop, Jimi Hendrix
Besides the fact that all of them are true musical legends, cultural icons and some of my alltime favourite players, all of them used or abused heroin at a certain high point in their careers.
It definitely makes you think. All of them were big innovators, and a good amount of those innovations came by the time they were into their heroin habit. There's no doubt about the innate talent these musicians had (or still have, those who are still alive today) but, is heroin partially responsible for it?
What would be left if we get rid of all the artistic works produced under the influence of drugs? (yes, including alcohol, tobacco and coffee)
Here's a quote to illustrate this post:
"Who lives longer: the man who takes heroin for two years and dies, or the man who lives on roast beef, water and potatoes till ninety-five? One passes his twenty-four months in eternity. All the years of the beef-eater are lived only in time."-- Aldous Huxley, british author.

jajaja
