Wasted minutes of my life
Two more weeks of summer vacation and a jetlagged insomniac lad with nothing to do and a high speed internet connection... I ended up downloading the Miss Teen USA beauty pageant since I already watched my favourite shows and still couldn’t get to sleep. To be honest I didn’t have the power to actually sit through whole thing (1 hour and 25 minutes without commercial breaks) I just fast forwarded and skipped big chunks of it to see what it was all about.
It’s exactly the sort of programmes I love to HATE, since it’s nothing more than a display of extreme shallowness, tons of make-up and fake emotion. Sure the girls are attractive (in a rather boring standardised way), but that’s all. It could be a more dignifying contest if they keep their mouths shut, and by “they” I mean not only the contestants but the hosts, judges and musical guests as well. Maybe I don’t “get it” since I’m not a teenager, but the show’s biggest audience is probably a herd of overweight, beer drinking perverts for whom pornography wasn’t just enough and went back to broadcast television as a source of sexual entertainment. After all, we’re talking about a programme showing 50 teenage girls in bathing suits and miniskirts performing their best moves, so just combine the porno-filled minds interpreting the images from the telly.
Miss Montana ended up as Miss Teen USA 2006, crying but without shedding a single tear. Probably the one in charge of providing the onions was too busy jerking off backstage or had an anxiety attack because he realised he was working in a beauty pageant, or why not both. I have to recognise that the production of this thing requires the skills of seasoned professionals, but nonetheless, that doesn’t cover the fact that the show is just plain corny and ridiculous.
It’s funny to see one of the most successful athletes of all time, Mr. Carl Lewis, working as part of the jury (why oh why did you do it man!?)
I came to the conclusion that the line between porno and a beauty pageant is very thin and blurry. Can’t wait until next years edition so I can complain some more :D
